Join us in supporting Nebraska’s premier and internationally recognized natural history museum.
We are pleased to offer you an opportunity to help sustain one of the State’s most beloved institutions. The University of Nebraska State Museum is Nebraska’s premier museum of natural history. Established in 1871, it has grown into one of the nation’s leading university research museums. Collections in anthropology, botany, entomology, parasitology, paleontology and zoology form the basis for scientific discovery, educational outreach and exhibits and are the biological and cultural heritage of the state.
Our internationally recognized collections of natural, geological and anthropological treasures include more than 14 million specimens and artifacts. In 2009, the museum was again awarded a 10-year reaccreditation by the American Association of Museums, the highest national recognition afforded U.S. museums.
Through our research, exhibits, educational programming and outreach, the museum introduces over 100,000 visitors each year to the power of science and the richness of the natural world. Children are drawn to science through a variety of innovative and engaging programs and events. These include “Sunday with a Scientist,” Astronomy Day, Colorful Creature Day, Dinosaurs and Disasters Day, NaturePalooza Nebraska, and Fright at the Museum (Halloween). And there are always exciting shows at the Mueller Planetarium.
The Museum is funded one-third from the State of Nebraska, one-third from federal and state external contracts/grants, and one-third from admissions and donations.
The Friends of the University of Nebraska State Museum is a 501(c)3 charitable organization focused upon providing a significant portion of operating and capital funding for the Museum. With your support, the Museum will continue to flourish as a beloved institution of our state. Your contributions will facilitate new discoveries, sustain our collections, and enhance public understanding of biodiversity and our rich cultural heritage.
